Carly Rae Jepsen Is Feeling Like a Princess on Broadway

Last year at this time, Carly Rae Jepsen was fresh off her opening gig on Justin Bieber's Believe Tour, after her ubiquitous pop hit "Call Me Maybe" broke Billboard records and inspired hundreds of internet memes. Everyone from Bieber and Selena Gomez to Harvard's baseball team made videos of themselves singing, "Here's my number, so call me maybe!"

But this year the two Canadian singers, who share the manager Scooter Braun, are in much different places. While Bieber's laying low after he was arrested for a DUI last month, Jepsen's making her Broadway debut as Cinderella. "It's always been on my bucket list," says Jepsen of performing on the Great White Way. "My family is more excited about this than anything. I was like, 'I'm going on tour with Justin Bieber and I'm going to be at the Grammys,' and they're like, 'OK great,' and then I'm like, 'I'm going to be on Broadway,' and they're like, 'What!? We're going to book our tickets!' It's just such a funny reaction, but I think it's because I grew up being in musicals. Read more...

Katy Perry, Queen of Twitter, Is First to Hit 50 Million Followers

Pop star Katy Perry roared her way to 50 million Twitter followers this week, becoming the first user hit the milestone after losing the race to 40 million followers to Justin Bieber in June 2013.

Bieber, who was recently arrested for a DUI in Miami, is close behind with 49.2 million followers.

It's important to note that Twitter doesn't remove fake, spam or inactive accounts when displaying the overall followers tally for users.

A "fake follower check" on StatusPeople.com reports that 34% of Katy Perry's followers are fake, based on data retrieved from her first 50,000 followers, which isn't necessarily a fair assessment. But in November, StatusPeople conducted a deeper dive and discovered 42% of "33,000 followers across her first 1.25 million followers" were fake. Katy Perry isn't the only one facing this issue; at its core, this falls on Twitter's shoulders to fix. Read more...

Looks like Justin Bieber fancies himself a smooth criminal

Comedian Speaks for Canada: 'Keep Bieber'

In the flurry of news surrounding Justin Bieber's arrest and subsequent speculation of his possible deportation to Canada, one factor wasn't considered in all of this: How does Canada feel about the situation?

Turns out Canada isn't too psyched about the prospect of the Bieb's deportation — at least that's what comedian Dartanion London believes Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper would say.

London, dressed as Harper, cites examples of famous Canadians, including Neil Young, Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey. The comedian requests the teenage pop star stay in the U.S., warning the disastrous effects of having both Bieber and scandalous Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in the same country at the same time (two words: crack doughnuts). It's OK to Feel a Little 'Biebenfreude'

Schadenfreude is defined as the feeling of happiness you get from the misery of others, and there was plenty of it going around the Internet this week as news broke of Justin Bieber's arrest.

While Beliebers all over the Internet were quick to defend their idol, everyone else seemed pretty amused by the ordeal. Even Justin himself couldn't help but give a big smile for his first mugshot (our little guy is growing up so fast).

YouTuber Lamarr Wilson shares his feelings on the Bieber saga, so check out the video above. You can catch new episodes of his new Mashable show Socially Awkward every week, so do us a personal favor and subscribe to his channel — there's a lot more awkward fun in store. Read more...

Justin Bieber Isn't Smiling Anymore

Justin Bieber went from all smiles in an orange jumpsuit to a disgruntled teen cloaked in shades and a black hoodie leaving the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami on Thursday afternoon.

The 19-year-old pop star was charged with driving under the influence on Thursday, resisting arrest and driving without an expired driver's license in Miami Beach, Fla., according to Miami Beach police. He was arrested at 4:13 a.m. ET and released at 2 p.m.

Bieber was allegedly uncooperative after he was pulled over. However, when released after posting a court-issued $2,500 bail, the singer cordially waved to fans atop of a black Cadillac Escalade before he was chauffeured off the premises. Like basically any normal Bieber appearance, the correctional center was swarmed by fans, media and paparazzi. Read more...

Why 2 NFL Legends Are So Happy About Justin Bieber's Arrest

Justin Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach early Thursday under suspicion of driving under the influence and drag racing. Of course, this set Twitter ablaze with Bieber mugshots, snarky remarks and general nonsense

But perhaps no one enjoyed the Twitter schadenfreude more than Keyshawn Johnson and Eric Dickerson, a pair of retired NFL legends. That may not make any sense now, but it will soon.

First, Johnson posted this on Thursday morning:

They finally caught HIM! Glad no one was hurt, no kids in the street. Everyone grows up at some point. Hopefully he learns from it.

What the Most Retweeted Tweets of All Time Say About Twitter

Each social network has its own greatest-hits list. YouTube had "The Evolution of Dance." Facebook seems to generate million-like stories about kids and puppies every other week. Many of Tumblr's most-noted stories feature cats and/or GIFs

These most-popular stories do not describe everyone's individual experience on these platforms, but you have to admit, they do say something about what's celebrated collectively. They represent the mass-market experience of the social network.

So, on the eve of Twitter's initial public offering, we took a look at what Twitter-tracker Favstar says are the most-retweeted tweets of all time (though none is more than a couple years old). Read more...

Justin Bieber Fans Unleash Twitter Fury on NFL Legend

Pro tip: Don't mess with Justin Bieber online — even if you're an NFL legend and Hall of Fame running back

Scores of Justin Bieber fans have unleashed a digital fusillade of Twitter barbs, rebukes and general haterade unto 52-year-old retired football star Eric Dickerson over the past two days. And all because Dickerson had the temerity to publicly rebuke the Biebster for driving fast in the tony SoCal suburb of Calabasas, where they both live

The beef began with a Tuesday morning TMZ report that Bieber and another retired football star — Keyshawn Johnson — had a near altercation after Johnson saw Bieber tearing about town in his Ferrari. Johnson reportedly tracked the pop star down in his Prius (yes, Prius) and "got out of his car to confront Justin face-to-face ... but Justin ran inside of his house and refused to come out."
