Tiny Batman Takes a Whimsical Trip Through the American Southwest

The life of a superhero can be lonely, especially if he only measures 11-inches tall

Rémi Noël's series of photographs featuring a tiny Batman traveling all over the American Southwest depict a more isolated side of the Dark Knight.

"My Batman series was not designed as a series initially, but it became a series over time," Noël told Mashable. He originally began taking photographs for his small publishing house, Poetry Wanted, for a series called "This is Not a Map," a collection of foldable maps for Texas, Las Vegas, Scotland and Japan. Noël's photographs depict the landscape of each location in place of an actual road map Read more...

Jesse Eisenberg Cast as Lex Luthor in 'Man of Steel' Sequel

The still-untitled Man of Steel sequel, which will star Ben Affleck as Batman and bring back Henry Cavill as Superman, will include The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg as the villainous Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons portraying Batman's loyal butler Alfred.

The casting news comes weeks after Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder tapped Fast and Furious actress Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

Snyder discussed Eisenberg's gig in a statement released by Warner Bros. on Friday:

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.” Read more...

Even Mr. Freeze Can't Handle This Weather

With the record-low weather across the U.S. this week, it's difficult to find hope for a warm light at the end of this tundra tunnel.

Even the names, "Winter Storm Hercules" and "polar vortex," sound like they've emerged to torture us straight from a comic book — which made us wonder how one of Batman's famously frost-loving foes might hold up in this subzero weather.

Surely a guy named Mr. Freeze can make the most of these frostbite fearing days ... but we all have our breaking point.

Bay Area Town Adds to Batkid-Mania With Its Very Own Wonder Girl

You remember the fun San Francisco (and everyone else) had with Batkid, right? Well, the Bay area town of Vallejo recently celebrated another young individual by turning them into a superhero for a day. Everyone, say hello to Monika Romo, a.k.a. Wonder Girl

The city of Vallejo in Solano County, Calif. may not have organized a city-wide villain hunt, but it certainly made one 10-year-old’s day. Romo was diagnosed with leukemia in April, and while she’s still undergoing chemotherapy, her mom says she’s currently in remission. Nonprofit group Vallejo Together wanted to do something special for a child dealing with the disease, and with help from Supporting Our Cancer Kids and the rest of the city, it was able to put together a big surprise for Romo. Superhero Leg Lamp Is the Perfect Gift for Comic Fans

Product name: Superman and Batman Leg Lamps
Price: $34.99
Who would like this?: Kids; comic book lovers; the superhero-obsessed; fans of over-the-top, kitsch home decor

If you've seen the classic movie A Christmas Story, chances are you'll remember the iconic leg lamp — complete with faux-fishnet stocking — featured in the film.

In the movie, Ralphie's mum was none-too-pleased with the product. We think the leg lamp is due a revamp, however; so naturally we're delighted to see these superhero versions hit store shelves.

With every holiday season that passes, it seems to get harder and harder to find unique gifts with a "wow factor" (socks and gift cards just aren't cutting it). We think that these official DC Comics lamps — fashioned to look like Batman's or Superman's legs — have nailed it Read more...

'Man of Steel' Sequel Finally Finds Its Wonder Woman

The untitled Man of Steel sequel, which will star Ben Affleck as Batman and bring back Henry Cavill as Superman, will now also feature Wonder Woman.

Director Zack Snyder announced the female superhero's inclusion Wednesday on Variety, tapping Fast and Furious Israeli actress Gal Gadot to fill the role

"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe," Snyder told Variety. "Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character." Read more...

BatKid Rises: Adorable Make-a-Wish Hero Gets Epic Movie Trailer

Last week the Internet collectively wept with joy over the story of BatKid

He was the hero that the world not only needed, but wanted, adored and was inspired by. Basically, he was just the right kind of guy to be a movie star

YouTube user SandD2012 — a self-proclaimed BatKid fan — created a movie trailer for "BatKid Rises," an adorable parody of The Dark Knight Rises, staring Miles (BatKid) instead of Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne

Miles' extraordinary day of events was thanks to a Make-A-Wish sponsored event that turned San Francisco into Gotham so the 5-year-old with leukemia could dress up as his favorite superhero and save the cityThousands of people showed up to watch Miles' heroic acts and even the President thanked him for his brave work Read more...

20 Creative Works of Money Art You Should Never Cash In

Breaking the law is rarely as beautiful as when an artist abandons the canvas in favor of some clever graffiti. Gorgeous examples of public defacement aren't limited to walls and buildings, though

Dollar bills have provided the perfect inspiration for the Banksys of tomorrow.

Working around a presidential noggin, dollar defacers reinterpret these small green rectangles into anything from a bare skull to certain Gerard Butler movie characters

Batkid Was Beautiful — Let's Keep It Going

Earlier this week, the folks at the Make-a-Wish Foundation's San Francisco branch called me about a crazy scheme they were cooking up for a boy named Miles, who has leukemia. Because he loved Batman, they were going to drive him around the city in a borrowed Lamborghini with Batman decals, and had arranged some set pieces, such as a damsel in distress in a cable car, for Miles to participate in.

At that point, some 7,000 strangers had signed up on the Make-a-Wish website to provide the necessary flash mobs — a crowd in Union Square to alert Miles to the dastardly Penguin's schemes, and another outside City Hall to thank him for saving 'Gotham.' The organizers figured they would be lucky if half those people showed up Read more...

Batkid Begins: Saves 'Gotham,' Captivates Internet

The streets of San Francisco — sorry, Gotham City — went absolutely insane Friday for a 5-year-old boy named Miles

Miles has leukemia, and his fondest wish was to be Batman for a day. The Make-a-Wish Foundation obliged, setting up several scenarios around the city involving two of Gotham's greatest enemies, The Penguin and The Riddler. At last count nearly 15,000 San Franciscans had signed up online to play the grateful onlookers

Result: cheering crowds comparable in size to the ones that gathered when the San Francisco Giants won the World Series. Read more...

'Man of Steel 2' Director Teases Fights Between Batman and Superman

Batman and Superman will come to blows in Man of Steel 2, which will be set in Detroit and is slated to be released in summer 2015.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder let loose with the detail at a recent Yahoo event promoting the Blu-ray release of the first movie, though he didn't say whether their fights would be in the vein of brothers-wrestling-in-the-basement or more all-out brawls.bl

"Whether they're fighting or they become friends or they're friends and then they fight, that's the fun of making movies and playing with this kind of mythology," Snyder said in the video, below. "You get to sort of take this icons and see how emotionally they fit together. ... And of course there will be some physical conflicts as well." Read more...

7,000 Strangers Sign Up to Make One Kid's Batman Wish Come True

In the annals of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, there's never been anything as big as this

A five-year-old boy named Miles, who lives in northern California, has leukemia. He loves superheroes, and his fondest wish is to be Batman. So Make-a-Wish put out a call for help from the citizens of San Francisco, where Miles' wish is to be realized in an elaborate set of stunts on Friday, Nov. 15.

They got more than they bargained for — 7,100 RSVPs on the website, and counting

The plan is for Miles to have an action-packed day around the city: rescuing a damsel in distress on a cable car, capturing the Riddler in a downtown vault, chasing the Penguin around Union Square, and finally receiving the thanks of a grateful mayor and police chief on the steps of City Hall Read more...

BaneDad Returns to Vine With More Terrible Parenting

If BaneDad taught us anything, it's to not trust him with a Vine account.

The anti-BatDad has returned with a series of six-second videos, and we're not even sure if he's a real father anymore. While BatDad manages to give helpful advice to his kids, BaneDad just terrorizes and embarrasses his child.

Watch as he steals his soda, eats his snacks and even drops a nuclear device. Every humiliating dad moment from your childhood now seems tame.

Batman Is Not the Hero These Old Horror Movies Deserve or Need

How helpful would Batman be in old Hollywood movies? As one video shows, the Caped Crusader can save Gotham from the likes of Sandman and Bane, but is useless when it comes to a whole bunch of birds

The creators behind YouTube channel PistolShrimps have produced a series of videos in which they splice their comical take on Batman into old films

To celebrate Halloween, PistolShrimps' latest video shows the Dark Knight facing off against villains in classic horror films.

Troy Baker Is the Busiest Gaming Voice Actor of 2013

Troy Baker wishes people didn't know he was the Joker.

The gaming voice actor is playing the next iteration of one of the most iconic supervillains ever in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins. The Joker has been played by a swath of actors yet mastered by only a handful. Baker, whose vocal talents have graced two of the biggest games of the year, doesn't want people's impressions of him to affect how they view his Joker.

"I don't ever want it to be about me. A friend of mine told me, 'The difference between fame and notoriety is fame is when people know you, and notoriety is when people know your work,'" Baker said during an interview at New York Comic Con. "The first one is not respectable, but the second one is, because that leaves a legacy." Read more...
