Fighting Sexism, but Trying to Avoid the Stigma of Being #ThatWoman
Feed-twFeed-fb

Yesterday, Kotaku published a piece by Rachel Edidin that went by the title "She Was Harassed By A Games Reporter. Now She's Speaking Out." While it was structured around telling the story of Alice Mercier (not her real name) a female member of the video games industry who recently anonymously publicized her sexual harassment on Facebook by a male peer, the piece also focused on how infuriatingly, personally familiar Mercier's story is to many women working in video games and the wider tech industry. Even so, despite the the entire article clearly laying out the reasons why women find it socially difficult and professionally dangerous to speak up about sexist behavior in the tech industry, it left lots of people asking why all of these ladies didn't "shut him down," "complain to HR," or "go public." Feed-twFeed-fb

Gamers, rejoice! The YouTube scientists of AsapScience are here to explain how video games can actually improve your brain function and make you smarter

Before you text your mom about how right you were all along, the video does state that — like anything else you can eat, drink, play or watch — there is always the possibility of too much of a good thing. Excessive gaming is still not recommended.

However, studies do show that responsible gaming can stimulate grey matter growth, as well as improve hand-eye coordination

Feed-twFeed-fb

Even if you've seen Elf a hundred times, you haven't really experienced the movie until you see Buddy attack fake Santa with a simple, "Beat it!"

Cinefix has created another installment of 8-bit cinema, this time tackling the modern classic Elf.

The Golden Age of Watching Other People Play Video Games
Feed-twFeed-fb

It’s too soon to know whether Microsoft or Sony will emerge victorious from this round of the great video-game console wars, but it may not be premature to name the real winner: Twitch.tv.

Each of the new consoles makes it easy to record and share videos of game play, and Twitch is a company built around the production and consumption of videos of people playing video games. The venture started in 2011 as an offshoot of Justin.tv, which provided a way for people to stream live video, activity inspired by the founder’s proclivity to record and stream his entire life to the Internet.
