Why I Flooded Instagram With Likes
Feed-twFeed-fb

I'm involved in a little Instagram experiment. Don’t tell Instagram, though. It doesn't know yet and I'm not sure it will like it

It wasn't my idea. In fact, the trial I'm a part of, or rather the web app I'm running, is the brainchild of Fueled founder Rameet Chawla. It's called Lovematically, and the concept is simple: It's a service that automatically Likes every new photo from up to 150 people you follow on Instagram

This could seem a bit underhanded: I'm not viewing your photos, but I'm liking them. I need only open up the app on my phone and see all the latest pictorial works from my network in chronological order. So what's the difference if I Like now or later? According to Chawla, quite a bit Read more...

Instagram Strangers Help Man Plan the Perfect Proposal

With butterflies in his stomach, Carter Moore asked her to coffee. Casual coffee, of course, just so they could get to know each other. No pressure or expectations. Just a friendly meetup.

Granted, she was beautiful: "The most gorgeous woman I'd ever seen," he remembers. For now, he just wanted to get to know her, even if it came with the unshakeable nervousness that swept through his body whenever she smiled in his direction

Three years later, butterflies still aplenty, they're married and living in Colorado Springs, Colo. Moore, 24, is a social media strategist at VSCO, and Brookelynn Howe, 22, is a nursing student at the University of Colorado. Read more...

Instagram Hacker Plays the Hero: Pockets 'Four-Figure' Reward
Feed-twFeed-fb

An Instagram hacker elected to play the hero instead of the villain

Christian Lopez Martin, a self-identified freelance security researcher, published a blog post on Monday detailing how he was able to hack Instagram through the platform's web version in a way that would allow outsiders to gather users' private photos. Users who only used the mobile app would not have been at risk

Instead of abusing the bug, Martin brought his work to Facebook six months ago and reported it as part of the company's White Hat Program, which offers financial compensation to those who flag bugs in the code. An Instagram spokesperson says that no photos were leaked, and that the bug has since been fixed Read more...

Glimpse App Helps You Find Love on Instagram
Feed-twFeed-fb

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, then your Instagram feed should say a lot more about you than most online profiles. That's the thinking behind a new dating app called Glimpse.

Unlike online dating services that ask you to fill out a profile, Glimpse taps into your Instagram account to help you meet your match. The app does ask you to enter in a few basic details (gender, birth date, sexual orientation), but the centerpiece is your pictures. You pick one profile picture and select nine additional photos from your Instagram account that best represent your interests and tastes

What Would Instagram Look Like If It Were Created in the '80s?
Feed-twFeed-fb

How could Instagram exist without smartphones? Quite easily, it seems.

In the YouTube video series "Wonders of the World Wide Web," your favorite photo-sharing service is imagined in the nightmarish old school tech heyday of the '80s

Here's how it would work: You would mail in your film roll with a completed Instagram form (free at the local gas station). The form asks you to choose effects, such as sepia, monochrome or 8-bit blurry. In a few weeks, your pictures would arrive digitized on a cassette, then you could view them instantly(!) on your PC. 8 Ways Facebook Changed the World
Feed-twFeed-fb

Happy birthday, Facebook!

It's only been 10 years, but the company that connected the world has had more experiences than most have in a lifetime. It's been the focus of a major motion film. It's played a role in multiple political revolutions. And most notably, it connects more people than any other single company ever has

With more than 1.2 billion users (and counting), Facebook has more than 17% of the world's population actively using the platform — and that's without almost all of China, where Facebook is currently blocked by the government. As the company places more emphasis on mobile and emerging markets, it's plausible that another billion users could sign up on the site in the next decade Read more...

The Office's B.J. Novak Launches First Novel on Instagram
Feed-twFeed-fb

Like most authors, B.J. Novak is using the days ahead of his upcoming book release to tease out clips for hungry readers to consume. Unlike most authors, Novak is using Instagram as his platform

The comedian known for his role on The Office where he was a writer, producer, and cast member, unleashed the first exclusive clip from his upcoming book on Instagram Friday. The book, One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories, comes out Feb. 4, but Novak wanted to try out a "soft launch" of the book, and picked a rather unusual medium to drive his message — the social network known almost exclusively for its images, not its text Read more...

Kate Upton's End Zone Dance Sizzles
Feed-twFeed-fb

Kate Upton is more than just a pretty face. She also has some pretty sweet dance moves.

The voluptuous supermodel took to the MetLife Stadium field to show us her "signature" touchdown dance. Throwing down her designer handbag, the blonde swayed her hips for a short salsa reminiscent of New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz's famous end zone dance

Kate's homage to Cruz is pretty spot on — however, the NFL star would probably find it difficult to pull off the dance in a flouncy skirt and pumps like Upton did

The Instagram video's description says that Upton's trip to the stadium was part of photo shoot with the Giants for the February issue of Vogue. Read more...
