And while the presumed attire for a Winter Olympics might be patriotic sweatpants and colorful mittens, Weir instead favors fur, leather and bold statement jewelry.

Tara Lipinski, step your game.

It's a fashionable geek's sci-fi fantasy — Rodarte unveiled Star Wars-inspired looks for the New York Fashion Week finale of its Fall/Winter 2014 collection

The impeccably chic gowns, designed by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, were created from prints of the iconic galactic characters, including Luke Skywalker and Yoda.

Pretty, Dark and a Little Out There: This Is Fashion Through Glass
Feed-twFeed-fb

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then an Instagram of blogger Chiara Ferragni wearing a Chanel jacket can be worth 42,000 likes. Fashion and social media, it seems, were made for each other. With models strutting down the catwalk as eyeless cameras capture everything, without really seeing anything, fashion observers hold smartphones aloft, ingesting and regurgitating every dress for an increasingly design-obsessed audience.

Even if its members never own a designer bag or brush by the gossamer threads of one designer dress, that audience can now feel closer to fashion than ever.

Designer Rebecca Minkoff Uses Apps to Reveal the 'Raw' Side of Fashion Week
Feed-twFeed-fb

Rebecca Minkoff is going back to basics at New York Fashion Week

However, it's not her Fall 2014 collection delivering the raw aesthetic — the collection she showed Friday was polished and menswear-inspired — it's her social media presence that's changing

Thanks to a partnership with the app Keek, Minkoff is sharing less glossy looks of Fashion Week, and instead showing consumers "fly on the wall" snippets from her showroom and runway

The brand joined Keek earlier this week and currently have more than 1,400 followers

"It's raw, organic, grainy and not edited," Uri Minkoff, the company's CEO, told Mashable. "We have this transparent disclosure and can let [the customer] into our world, which is sometimes highly stylized and glossy and other times raw. I think they appreciate that." Read more...

The Best and Worst Dressed at the Sochi Opening Ceremony
Feed-twFeed-fb

In some weird alignment of the moons, New York Fashion Week and the Winter Olympics opening ceremony fell in the same week. So you'd expect that the Olympic athletes — in reverence of Anna Wintour — would arrive in Sochi dressed like something out of Vogue.

Not so much

Instead, the athletes swapped peplums and tailored pantsuits for rainbow-colored puffy coats (thanks, Germany) and patriotic Christmas sweaters (here's to you, Team USA)

At least everyone looked warm — well, except for those guys from Bermuda in shorts. Read more...

Team USA has revealed the looks they will sport for the 2014 Olympic opening and closing ceremonies in Sochi — and they are patriotic, to say the least

The company gave sneak peeks at the look on Instagram Wednesday, followed by the official unveiling on the Today Show Thursday morning. American curlers Jessica Schultz and Jared Zezel, both from Minnesota, modeled this year's outfit Read more...

Brands Crowdsource Product Shoots via Instagram
Feed-twFeed-fb

In a world increasingly filtered through Instagram, a carefully crafted photo shoot starts to look dated. That's why retailers are rushing to crowdsource their product shots — harvesting a stream of photos from social platforms to help sell everything from West Elm couches to Coach handbags.

The photos are typically curated in galleries, where each picture is linked to a page selling the product. Increasingly, the amateur images are also showing up directly on product pages, next to professionally styled pictures. "The path to purchase has evolved tremendously, and consumers are much more likely to trust their peers than a brand," said Mimi Banks, director of social media at L'Oreal's Lancome brand.
