In this tech-centric day and age, it's easy to get caught up in the future.

Recently at Mashable, we've been thinking about the future, after our MashableReads social book club finished Chang-Rae Lee's On Such A Full Sea

Set in the future, the novel takes place in a technologically advanced society that deals with extreme social stratification. Reading about this dystopian environment made us wonder what present-day items we would save for the future, so we asked Mashable readers to show us what they would put in their 2014 time capsules.

24 New Year's Resolution Photos to Inspire a Fresh Start

We rang in the new year with this week's Mashable Photo Challenge. In the spirit of fresh starts and new beginnings, we asked our readers to make resolutions for 2014 and photograph them.

The submissions included handwritten lists with ambitious goals to run three miles a day, worry less, eat organic food, pay off loans, read a dozen books and more. Others were photos of activities and habits planned for the new year

Twitter Map Tracks Users Ringing in 2014 Around the Globe

New Year's Eve is a time for reflection, goal-setting, and of course, tweeting out a New Year's message to your followers

Twitter revisited 24 hours of New Year's Eve celebrations on Wednesday with a visual display highlighting the spikes in Twitter activity worldwide as users welcomed 2014

The graphic (embedded below; click to see the animation) moves region by region, highlighting each time zone as the clock struck midnight on January 1. The graphic pulls out New Year's greetings in more than 30 different languages, showing when each phrase was tweeted the most. The term "Happy New Year," for example, spiked at midnight in London, then again five hours later when the clock struck 12 a.m. on the East Coast of the United States Read more...

11 Things You Need to Stop Doing in 2014

Now that you've (hopefully) finished your Christmas shopping, it's the perfect time to start thinking about some collective New Year's resolutions.

It's up to you as an individual to decide if you want to eat more salad or be more positive in 2014, but there are some blanket resolutions everyone can live by.

And if we stick with them, together, it's going to be a very promising new year.
